Winds.Process.2022.01
Development of this process started with an invitation to propose some wind-related artwork for a hotel project in Vietnam. I found wind data from Ho Chi Minh City online and developed a process that visualizes hourly wind conditions for a whole year. I was curious about how winds change throughout the year and from year to year.
Each row in these drawings is a day of the year starting January 1 and has marks drawn for each hour if the wind was blowing. Color and the direction marks are drawn are keyed to wind direction. Wind speed is keyed to the length of the marks.
I wanted each hour’s set of marks to look like threads tied around a point. With 8,760 possible sets of marks arranged in 365 rows, each drawing has a texture that, to me, feels like a weaving.
Unfortunately, the hotel project didn’t work out, but I'm pleased with the process that it led to.
