The Reporter
The Reporter is a new media project that mixes and recombines words found online. Letters from these words float freely in a typographic cloud and periodically come together to make original statements. When exhibited, The Reporter’s vocabulary is regularly updated. Its sources can be tailored to a specific location or specific topics.
In 2009, it was shown at the studios of WGBH in Boston as part of Boston Cyberarts Festival. Its sources included WGBH related programming such as NPR, PBS and the BBC as well as Boston area newspapers and blogs.
In 2011, it was shown at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem, NC during a special gala in the gallery celebrating the opening of an exhibition. During this event, words were gathered from sources near the hometowns of each of the participating artists.
During the Asheville Art Museum’s “Prime Time: New Media Juried Exhibition” in 2012, the reporter gathered its words from Asheville area news organizations.
During the 2012 presidential election, I turned The Reporter's attention to politics and developed The Political Reporter and gathered words from websites for political candidates, news organizations and bloggers.
